Gary Stubblefield
Gary Stubblefield is Executive Vice President of Risk Management at ExecutiveAction, LLC. A former SEAL Team THREE Commander, he advises clients on complex security issues, including physical security, facility security, residential security, and executive protection.
Stubblefield is one of the world's leading experts in maritime security. He has conducted a wide range of security assessments, including ports and harbors, sports stadiums, convention centers, entertainment arenas, and nuclear facilities.
After retiring from Naval Service, Stubblefield provided security management consultation. He founded and served as president of a security management firm. He also has assisted the U.S. Department of Energy in the International Radiological Threat Reduction (IRTR) Program to reduce the threat of a "dirty bomb" terrorist attack.
Upon completion of Underwater Demolition Training (UDTRA) and SEAL Basic and Advanced training at the Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado, California, Stubblefield was assigned a tour at SEAL Team ONE, during which time he deployed to Vietnam for a combat tour as a SEAL. His second assignment was at the Joint U.S. Military Advisory Group with the Republic of Korea Fleet Operations. In 1975, Stubblefield was transferred to Naval Special Warfare Group TWO in Norfolk, Virginia and assigned as the Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) Officer. From 1977 to 1979, he was assigned as the Executive Officer for SEAL Team TWO.
In January 1981, Stubblefield became the first SEAL-qualified Naval Special Warfare Detailer/Placement Officer at the Naval Military Personnel Command in Washington, DC. Following an operational tour of duty assisting in sensitive National Security issues with the Special Development Unit in Washington DC, Stubblefield assumed command of SEAL Team THREE. He thereafter served as Commander, Naval Special Warfare Task Unit (Pacific) Middle East Force, on a Mobile Sea Base in support of joint special operations being conducted in the Persian Gulf. He reported for duty as Commander, Special Boat Squadron ONE, September 1988 following his Middle East deployment.
Stubblefield holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Idaho and a Masters Degree in International Affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California. His military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with combat "V", four Meritorious Service Medals, and the Navy Commendation Medal as well as numerous service medals.
In 1994, he co-authored the non-fiction book, Killing Zone, and later published a second manuscript focused on Naval Special Warfare matters called Inside the U.S. Navy SEALs. He has also co-authored the manuscript, What Your Travel Agent Won't Tell You, which details security considerations when traveling, and another non-fiction manuscript, Maritime Terror, on piracy at sea.
